Having this many people in one place at one time can cause health issues.

Meningococcal disease outbreaks are well recognized at the Hajj, this is a type of meningitis that can spread between people when there are a lot of people in one place at one time.

Luckily there is a meningitis vaccine called the Meningitis ACWY vaccine that can protect you on your pilgrimage.

The Saudi Government take the risk of Meningitis at the Hajj so seriously that you will need a meningitis vaccine certificate to enter Saudi Arabia.

Pilgrims must have this vaccination at least 10 days before travelling and proof of certification is requested at the time of visa application.

A certificate is valid for 3 years, so there is no point leaving this until the last minute.

Additionally if you are going to shave your head a course of Hepatitis B vaccine are advised unless you can guarantee the sterility of the shaving equipment.

Other travel vaccinations may also be needed for your trip and it is essential you are covered for these before your trip as well.
