Rabies is a viral illness that is aquired typically from the bite or scratch from an animal.

Rabies virus attacks your central nervous system, causing paralysis, encephalitis (inflamation of the brain) and coma.

Once symptoms are present, rabies is a fatal infection.

It is important that before your travel you have the vaccination to give you a degree of protection against this deadly virus, the standard course of injections is 3 injections over the course of a month before your trip.

The Vaccination is not available on the NHS and a Private charge is Payable.

Our cost is £165 for a course of 3 injections.

Areas of high risk requiring Vaccination are the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Central America and in some parts of Eastern Europe.

The countries with the highest risk of rabies are:

  • Cuba
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • India
  • Mexico
  • Nepal
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Sri Lanka
  • Thailand
  • Turkey
  • Vietnam

The vaccination doesn’t give you full protection however it can give you valuable time to access medical care on your travels.

A booster should be given 1 year after the primary course to ensure long term immunity, additional boosters can be given at 5 year intervals following this.
